And that's not all... LAWS has a new principal to welcome. Rod Driscoll has joined the LAWS team as lead principal at both campuses. Rod brings a wealth of experience and lots of enthusiasm to share with us. It's going to be a great year!

Dorothy Canfield Fisher Book Award

posted Apr 27, 2017, 6:33 AM by Tony Francescutti

Each  year, the State of Vermont  since 1957, Vermont students in grades four through eight have selected their favorite book from a list of 30 nominees. Student who have read at least five of these books are able to participate in the voting as well as see a local "game show" about the books. Some students, who have read at least 8 books, are invited to participate in the game show.
This year we had three students read all 30 books! Congrats to Brooke Bertrand, Jordan Bertrand and Isabell Stevens (our game show contestant from Sudbury).
We are currently purchasing next year's book list and students can get a jump start on them for next year.

SCS students made a short trip over the The Compass Arts Center in Brandon the other day to participate in a collaborative art project with six other schools in RNESU. The kids used Sumi Ink to create a several thousand square foot mural on the walls of the main gallery space. Read more about it here and check out the story on WCAX.

February in Review

posted Feb 16, 2017, 9:53 AM by Tony Francescutti

February was a bizarre month to say the least. Snow days, illness and winter break have really broken things up a bit. Nevertheless, there is still some awesome learning going on at SCS. The K-4 is still spending their Tuesdays in their outdoor classroom and the 4/5/6  retraced their outdoor, Thoreau-like writing inspirations last week. Mr. F's class is also currently prepping for their Shakespeare performance in late March.
Winter break begins Monday! Enjoy :)

The Students in Miss Nolan's Room have been busily carving out and exploring the new SCS Eco Classroom. Mrs. Desabrais' Investigators have joined them on several occasions and this past week, the younger students introduced the awesome new outdoor classroom to Mr. Francescutti's team of scholars. It adds a new element to our curriculum and gives the students a cool new place to learn and discover. Check it out!
